The 'Building on Regional Arts and Cultural Opportunities' workshops were held in Longreach on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of May. These workshops were an initiative of Longreach RADF committee and Longreach Regional Council and support by Red Ridge (Interior Queensland) Ltd. The


The workshop objectives were to EXPLORE DISCOVER LEVERAGE – develop pathways for regional arts and cultural development for the towns of Longreach, Isisford, Ilfracombe and Yaraka

- EXPLORE – ideas that support new innovative arts and cultural projects

- DISCOVER – projects

- LEVERAGE – Partnerships and Collaboration – what can be achieved and how?

- COMMITMENT - Plan a way forward to enhance the arts sector for Longreach region – what does Longreach region want to achieve? – how and when?


In attendance were 24 people representing 22 community and government organisations.


It was discovered that the community would like to focus would like to focus on the 5 main areas of

- Events

- Cultural Tourism

- Infrastructure

- Community Art Workshops

- Town Beautification

The next workshop titled 'Building on Regional Arts and Cultural Opportunities - Where to now?'  will explore the how to move forward with the projects identified in the first workshop. The community is invited to come along to discuss funding opportunities and partnerships to deliver the ideas previously discussed.

This free community event will be held on Wednesday 12 April in the Thomson Redford Room of the Longreach Civic and Cultural Centre with two workshops. The first from 10:00am to 12 noon and the second from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This is a free event and food will be provided.
